Carson High School inducted its second annual basketball Hall of Fame class Oct. 12 at the Governor’s Mansion.

Ten Senators were enshrined during the ceremony – five men and five women.

Going into the Hall of Fame on the men’s side were George Allison (Class of 1956), Mike Griffin (1961), Chris Padgett (1981), Bruce Barnes (1983) and Chris Rand (1995).

Allison was a three-year letterman with the Senators and finished his career averaging 14.5 points per game along with 15 rebounds per contest. He also earned second team all-state honors.

Griffin won a AA league championship in 1961 with Carson High School and posted a career average of 10.4 points per game along with an impressive defensive prowess.

Padgett made it to the state final four in AAA in 1981 and was a two-time AAA conference first team selection.

Barnes won a AAA zone championship in 1981 alongside Padgett while averaging 17 points and 10 boards per game over his career.

Rand lettered all four years at Carson and put together 22 points per game as a senior while leading Carson to a final four appearance at the state tournament.

On the women’s side, Prim Walters (1985), Amber Andreasen (1989), Jennifer Gray (1990), Melissa Schreiner (1991) and Alyson Thurman (2000) were all inducted into the Dick Stoddard Hall of Fame.

Walters won the AAA state title with Carson in 1983, 1984 and 1985 while earning all-conference MVP in 1985.

Andreasen was a part of the 1989 team that went a perfect 30-0 before winning a AAA state title.

Gray, who is still listed in the Carson High record books, helped the Senators put together a 60-game winning streak and won multiple AAA state titles in her time on the hardwood.

Schreiner, who lettered all four years of her career from 1988 to 1991, was also alongside Gray for the 1989 and 1990 AAA state titles. She is still one of Carson’s all-time leading scorers with 1,631 points.

Thurman was a four-year letter recipient and was named the AAAA Division II player of the year as a sophomore. She finished her career as a two-time all-state selection and remains as the all-time leading scorer with 1,716 career points.

The Hall of Fame itself is named after Dick Stoddard, whose No. 21 jersey is on display in the Carson High gymnasium. Stoddard was a former all-conference basketball player in his time with the Senators and student body president at Carson High.
