Carson High volleyball beat Galena in straight sets on Thursday – 25-21, 25-14, 25-18.

Sophomore Emma Sanders led the offense with eight kills while Hannah Gerow and Abby Drysdale tallied four apiece.

Ava Kordonowy had five serving aces and a team-high 20 digs.

The win moves Carson to 8-6 in Class 5A North league play and into a tie for fourth with Spanish Springs. Galena still sits one game ahead of both teams with a 9-5 record.

UP NEXT: Carson (16-6, 8-6) will hope to secure a home playoff match this week in its final regular season contests at Bishop Manogue (17-10, 11-4) on Tuesday and at home against Douglas (12-13, 5-9) on Wednesday.


WOOSTER BESTS CARSON BOYS SOCCER

Wooster High locked in as the No. 1 seed in the Class 5A North Sierra League with a 2-0 win over Carson on Saturday.

The Senators hold the final postseason spot in the Sierra League with 11 points, one in front of Bishop Manogue.

UP NEXT: Carson (6-7-3) played at Galena (9-3-2, 16 points in league) on Tuesday and then concludes the regular season at Manogue (6-8-2, 10 points) on Thursday.


CARSON TENNIS CONCLUDES SEASON AT REGIONALS

The Carson High tennis team wrapped up its season this past week with the Class 4A North regional individual tournament at Bishop Manogue.

In girls singles, Meryl Johnson bested teammate Aubrey McAllister 6-0, 6-1 to make it to the quarterfinals before falling to eventual regional champion Addison Bowers of Spanish Springs.

In doubles, Lily Maguire and Abby Wolz picked up an opening round win in three sets – 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 – before falling in the second round to a team from Douglas.

On the boys side, Cannon Myler won his opening round singles match 6-3, 6-0 before running into the top seed in Bishop Manogue’s Ryder Kiel, who went on to win the regional title.


DAYTON FOOTBALL ROUTS NORTH TAHOE

The Dayton High football team posted a 51-0 win over North Tahoe last weekend to improve to 3-4.

Sophomore running back Duke Evans had 224 yards and five touchdowns on 13 carries for the Dust Devils. Senior Archie Ervin ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, senior Nathan Adams had five tackles ­– four for loss – a sack and a forced fumble for Dayton.

Boston Moon and Tyler Kemp both had interceptions in the win.

UP NEXT: Dayton (3-4) will play at Coral Academy (4-4) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., according to MaxPreps.
