Douglas High School volleyball celebrated Senior Night this past Thursday in its win over Spanish Springs. The Tigers honored their three seniors, pictured from left to right alongside their families, in Ella Girdner, Parker Estes and Sumer Williams.

Douglas High volleyball knocked off Spanish Springs last Thursday, sending off its seniors with a celebration.
The Tigers defeated the Cougars in four sets – 25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 25-21.
Junior Morgan Machado led the team with 17 kills, but senior Parker Estes was right behind her with 13 kills of her own.
Sumer Williams, the Tigers’ senior libero, had four service aces in the win and posted a team-high 18 digs.
Fellow senior Ella Girdner had 11 digs for the Tigers to go along with two blocks and a team-high 32 assists.
UP NEXT: Douglas (12-13, 5-9 in Class 5A North league play) is on the outside looking in at the postseason picture, but wins over Damonte Ranch (1-21, 1-13) and Carson (16-6, 8-6) this week could potentially lead to a playoff spot if McQueen drops its final two league contests.
TIGER TENNIS COMPETES IN INDIVIDUAL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
Two girls doubles team put up solid performances in the Class 4A North individual regional tennis tournament last week at Bishop Manogue.
Ava Gildea and Annie Hill, who entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed, took advantage of their opening round bye and won their second round match 7-6, 6-2 before falling to the No. 2 seeded team from Bishop Manogue.
On the other side of the doubles bracket, Jasmine Shoemaker and Charlotte Bonar won two matches to get into the quarterfinals before losing to the top seed and eventual regional doubles champions from Reno.
Shoemaker and Bonar won their first two matches by scores of 6-0, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-4, defeating two Carson doubles teams.
In singles, Kiley Girdner won her opening round match 6-1, 6-3 before dropping her second round match to the No. 3 seed from Spanish Springs.
Abram Millward and Zack Peterlin won their first round doubles match, 6-1, 6-0, before falling in the second round to a pairing from Galena.
TIGER GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TOPS FIELD AGAIN
The Douglas girls cross country team took first place in the Chase Race at North Valleys High School last weekend.
The Tigers finished with 43 points, besting second place Spanish Springs (50).
It was a pack finish for Douglas as four runners in a row crossed the line in seventh through 10th all registering the same time, according to athletic.net.
Amy Van Wagenen, Krystle Dixon, Logan Axtell and Lucy Nord recorded times of 21:48 while Ayla Nelson and Taylor Chase were 14th and 15th, respectively, in times of 22:33 and 22:49.
On the boys side, Douglas was fourth with 105 team points while Spanish Springs won the meet with 27 points.
Senior Luke Davis was the first Tiger runner, taking seventh overall in 17:42.
Nathaniel Blair and Sage Spencer were 23rd and 24th, respectively, both stopping the clock at 19:12.
Colin Hatcher was 32nd overall in 19:36 while Kyndall McGuire was 36th in 19:49.
DOUGLAS SOCCER DROPS LATE-WEEK GAMES
The Douglas girls soccer team fell against Damonte Ranch, 4-1, on Saturday.
The Tiger boys also traveled to Damonte Ranch and lost to the Mustangs, 5-1. It was the final game of the season for the Douglas boys soccer team, finishing with a 1-15 record.
UP NEXT: The Douglas girls (3-12) will conclude the season Tuesday at McQueen (8-8-2).
