The Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday released the identities of those in an officer-involved shooting that occurred at 170 Koontz Lane last week.
The deceased suspect was identified as 43-year-old Juan Herrea Mejorado, who had a California driver’s license address of Kings Beach, Calif., according to a news release from CCSO.
Mejorada was determined deceased at the scene of the incident from gunshot wounds after allegedly stabbing his wife.
At 10:50 p.m. Aug. 28, CCSO responded to reports of a domestic battery with a deadly weapon. A teenager called 911 stating that his father had stabbed his mother multiple times. The juvenile also reported his father had cut himself severely and was “almost beyond help,” according to CCSO.
When deputies arrived, the family had been able to escape the man and the Koontz Lane home. Deputies located the woman, with multiple stab wounds, and two juveniles. Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect and, after the suspect failed to respond, deputies entered the home at 11:15 p.m. An altercation occurred, and the man was shot and killed by two officers, according to CCSO.
The officers remain on administrative leave with pay pending a standard investigation into the incident by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, CCSO said Tuesday.
The officers are Sergeant Morgan Tucker, an 18-year veteran with Carson City, and Deputy Jonathan Vasquez, a two-year deputy with CCSO with additional experience from a prior law enforcement agency, CCSO said.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact Detective Scott Battcher, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, at (775) 782-9905.
The condition of the wife was unknown Tuesday, but she was taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno the night of the incident.
