The 2024 Regional Junior Ranger Day at Washoe Lake State Park is Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This annual event, which began in 2022, celebrates the Junior Ranger programs of Northern Nevada, bringing together local agencies to engage children and families in outdoor education and fun.

Regional Junior Ranger Day was first initiated by the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department, which invited surrounding agencies to join. This year, Nevada State Parks is hosting the event at Washoe Lake.

Participating agencies include Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department, Nevada State Parks, Washoe County Regional Parks & Open Space, the City of Reno, Nevada Department of Wildlife, and Nevada Division of Forestry. Each agency will present interactive booths and activities designed to inspire young adventurers to explore and protect Nevada’s natural and cultural heritage.

Activities will include nature hikes, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and Smokey Bear. Children will have the chance to earn Junior Ranger badges and certificates by participating in a variety of educational and hands-on activities. The event is free, with no prior registration required.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and drinks will be available. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic or enjoy the available concessions.
