Macy wins Oakmont Invite in course record

Carson High senior boys cross country runner Sawyer Macy won the Oakmont Invitational on Saturday in Johnson Springview Park, California.

Macy’s win came in a time of 11:45.90 on the 4,000-meter course, which broke the course record by 23 seconds, according to head coach Jason Macy.

The Carson boys took fifth place out of 33 teams with 206 points.

Junior Sean Thornton was 24th in 12:22.50 while senior Alex Miner was 34th in 12:33.10.

Quinn Kuchnicki, a sophomore, crossed the line in 12:54.90 to take 53rd.

Seth Chalmers (112th), Nate Freed (121st), Ivan Romeo (122nd) and Mark Walther (175th) also competed for the Senators.

There were 263 runners in the boys varsity race.

On the girls side, Carson was fourth out of 25 teams with 182 team points.

Junior Vea Miner was the first Senator to cross the line in 15:00.10, taking 24th while senior Jinnie Ponczoch was 32nd in 15:09.

Madison Hager, a junior, was just off Ponczoch’s pace with a 35th place finish in 15:12.50.

Senior Eleanor Romeo (16:10.30) and sophomore Anna Shane (16:11.80) finished within one-half second of each other in 63rd and 64th, respectively.

Hailey Miner (129th) and Lillian Barker (130th) also competed for the Senators against 195 runners.

UP NEXT: Carson’s next event is scheduled for Saturday at the Nevada Union Cross Country Invitational.


SENATOR GIRLS TENNIS BESTS MCQUEEN, BOYS FALL

Carson girls tennis won its first match of the season, beating the Lancers 10-9 Aug. 27 on the road.

Meryl Johnson swept her three singles points – 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 – while Aubrey McAllister grabbed a point as well with a 6-4 win.

In doubles, Ava Schofield and Dahlia Keating picked up two points with wins of 6-2 and 6-0.

The combo of Betsy Campbell and Lainey Miller grabbed a point (6-1) as did the pairing of Abby Wolz and Lily Maguire (6-2).

The McQueen boys beat Carson, 18-0.

UP NEXT: Carson (1-0) girls hosted Spanish Springs (2-0) on Tuesday and will host Reno (1-1) on Thursday. The boys (0-1) will be at Spanish Springs (3-0) and at Reno (1-1).


DAYTON FOOTBALL FALLS AGAINST INCLINE 

Dayton football lost to Incline Friday night, 40-13.

The Dust Devils scored in the second and fourth quarters.

UP NEXT: Dayton (1-1) will travel to South Tahoe (1-1) this Friday.


DUST DEVIL VOLLEYBALL SITS AT 7-6 AFTER TOURNEY

Dayton volleyball picked up a win over Bullard (Fresno, Calif.) last weekend in a tournament in straight sets, 2-0.

In its four other tournament matches, Dayton fell to Franklin (2-0), Reed (2-1), Ripon (2-0) and Smith Valley (2-0).

UP NEXT: Dayton (7-6) will travel to McQueen (10-2) on Thursday.


NORTH TAHOE PULLS AWAY FROM DAYTON SOCCER

North Tahoe High beat Dayton boys and girls soccer over the weekend.

The Lakers beat the Dust Devils, 9-0, on the boys side and, 11-0, on the girls side.

UP NEXT: The Dayton boys (0-4) will play at Fernley (2-5) on Saturday. The Dust Devil girls (3-1) will also play at the Vaqueros (4-5) Saturday.
