The Greenwave volleyball team opened its 3A crossover schedule with a pair of convincing wins last week.
After finishing 1-5 in the Labor Day tournament in Reno, Fallon swept Wooster and Sparks last week before going on the road this week against Truckee and Hug.
Fallon defeated Wooster, 25-7, 25-17 and 25-12, last Wednesday in its home opener at the Elmo Dericco Gymnasium.
Raegan Johnson led the team in kills with nine followed by Alexis Haggard with six and Kendra Dodge with five as the team hit .361. Vernita Fillmore and Lea Williams each served three aces, and Layla Walker and Raygen Bartel each had two. Johnson finished with two total blocks, and Dylan Faught, Sutton Yost and Fillmore each had one.
Bartel and Williams each recorded seven digs, Fillmore had five and Walker finished with four. Fillmore dished 15 assists and Walker added five.
Fallon swept Sparks, 25-10, 25-13 and 25-12, on Friday.
Johnson and Haggard each finished with six kills, Halle Johnson had three, and Leah Sorensen, Bartel and Dodge each had two. Williams had a team-high nine aces, and Fillmore and Walker each had three. Haggard finished with two total blocks, and Yost and Johnson each had one.
Walker finished with five digs, Johnson had four, and Fillmore, Williams and Faught each had three. Johnson and Fillmore each had nine assists.
GIRLS GOLF
The girls golf team opened the season in Fernley last Tuesday with a third-place finish.
Truckee won the event with a score of 375 followed by Lowry at 387 and Fallon at 438.
Charissa Chenoweth carded a 91 to lead Fallon followed by Rylie Guerrero, who finished with a 113. Megan Johnson and Madison Gregory tied with 117, and Rochelle Prentice had a 131.
The next day, Fallon tied for fourth in Winnemucca.
Lowry won the tournament with a team score of 384 followed by Truckee at 396 and Spring Creek at 451. Fallon tied with Elko with a score of 452.
Chenoweth led Fallon with a score of 95 followed by Guerrero at 115 and Johnson at 116. Bailey Prinz shot a 126 followed by Prentice at 136.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Fallon cross country team kicked off its season last month with the Douglas Class Races at Lampe Park.
In the freshman class, Lars Rasmussen finished the 2.55-mile course in 16 minutes, 17 seconds, followed by Tayven Martinez (17:38), Isaac Frederick (17:53) and Levi Bradford (18:52). Rebekah Knight led the girls in the freshman race with a time of 20:13 followed by McKayla Taylor (22:35) and Zoe Rasmussen (29:52).
Jackson Barbee led the sophomore boys with a time of 14:53 followed by Vernon Harper at 18:27. For the girls, Abigail Lacow finished the race in 23:07. Michael Liston led the junior boys with a 17:16 followed by William McNeill at 20:53.
Last Saturday, Fallon finished fifth in the boys division of the North Tahoe Madman Mills Mountain Motivational.
Jackson Barbee led Fallon with a time of 24:57 for the 3.3-mile course followed by Takoda Pacheco (25:32), Lars Rasmussen (26:11), Isaac Frederick (29:15), Martinez (30:31), Liston (30:57) and Levi Bradford (33:55).
In the frosh/soph girls category, Taylor finished in 32:28 followed by Lacow in 32:48 and Rasmussen in 43:27.
SOCCER
After a pair of lopsided wins over White Pine and West Wendover to close out August, the girls soccer team lost to Truckee, 3-1, last Tuesday at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex.
Fallon traveled to Spring Creek and Elko this week and will host Fernley on Friday before traveling to Dayton on Saturday.
In Fallon’s first close contest since the opening-season tournament last month, Karlie Simper scored the lone goal from 63 feet out.
In the week before, Fallon defeated White Pine, 12-0.
Simper scored four goals to lead the team while McKenzee Peterson scored three. Kortnie Simper had two goals, and Keily Ugalde, Emi Allyn and Yasmien Leceste each had one.
Fallon defeated West Wendover, 19-9, the next day.
Karlie Simper and Kaylee Craig each scored three goals, and Ambreea Snodgrass, Kortnie Simper and Jazelynn Kratz each had two. Kylee Simper, Payton Oceguera, Elizabeth Bergman, Jada Anastasio, Peterson and Kaitlin Goings each had one goal.
The Greenwave boys soccer team started a winning streak at the end of last month when it defeated West Wendover, 3-1, and White Pine, 5-0.
However, Truckee snapped the streak last week with a 3-0 win in Fallon before the Greenwave split against Spring Creek (1-0 win) and Elko (3-0 loss).
Fallon traveled to Fernley on Wednesday and heads to Dayton on Saturday.
