The Oasis Academy volleyball team is off to a 1-3 start in the Northern 2A after dropping a pair of road contests last weekend.
The Bighorns fell to league powerhouse Pershing County in straight sets (25-14, 25-18 and 25-10) in Fallon two weeks ago before notching their first win, 27-25, 26-24 and 25-11 sweep over Silver Stage. Oasis Academy was swept by Battle Mountain and West Wendover last week.
Oasis Academy returned home this week with a match against Coral Academy on Wednesday and it will host North Tahoe on Friday at the city-county gym before traveling to Yerington on Saturday.
In the Pershing County loss, Grace Laca and Kaylin Guthrie each had two kills and Taylor Hyde added one. Dahlila Creer, Hyde and Laca each had an ace, and Kiera McCoy and Creer each had a block assist. Reese Laca and Creer each dished two assists, and Hazel Mackedon, Kirsten Detomasi, Guthrie and Creer each had one dig.
Against Silver Stage, Grace Laca led the team with six digs and Creer and Hyde each had two. Creer had a team-high five aces while Hyde added four, and Guthrie had the team’s lone block. Laca and Detomasi each had two digs, and Reese Laca led with six assists followed by Creer with five.
Last Friday, Oasis Academy fell to Battle Mountain, 25-17, 25-13 and 25-16 in Lander County.
Hyde, Guthrie and Grace Laca each had three kills, and Reese Laca served two aces. Grace Laca finished with two block solos and one block assist, Guthrie had two digs, and Creer finished with five assists and Reese Laca added four.
The Bighorns fought West Wendover in the first set, losing 26-24, but came up short in the next two, 25-12 and 25-19.
Grace Laca led the team with five kills and three aces followed by Guthrie with two kills and Creer with two aces. Laca also had two block solos, and Guthrie led in digs with four followed by the Laca sisters, who each had two. Creer had a team-high five assists and Reese Laca added three.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Oasis Academy cross country team kicked off its season last month with the Douglas Class Races at Lampe Park.
Leonidas Arcoraci led the team in the sophomore class with a time of 15 minutes, 19 seconds, followed by Kamron Bracken at 17:41 and Elijah Jones at 20:21. Junior Jay Frederick posted a time of 18:11 followed by Chase Ackerman at 20:36. For the girls, Beatriz Hallberg led the team with a time of 25:01 in the junior class.
Last Saturday, the Bighorns competed in the North Tahoe Madman Mills Mountain Motivational.
Arcoraci led the team with a 26:12 time in the 3.3-mile course followed by Frederick in 33:14 and Ackerman in 37:48. In the sophomore boys division, Bracken finished in 26:29 followed by Jones in 31:02.
For the girls, Kayla Greenberg finished in 35:40 followed by Hallberg in 38:57.
