Daring stage robbery: No little excitement was felt here over the news that Dyer’s Reno stage had been stopped by robbers when they were a short distance north of Washoe City near the Tamarac mill. Its passengers and Wells Fargo & Co’s treasure box was robbed of their money and valuables.

Princess Winnemucca: Mrs. Sarah W. Hopkins, the princess, daughter of old Winnemucca, the King of Piutes [sic], will lecture at the Opera House. She is a fluent speaker, and feeling a great interest in her race talks straight from her heart. She will show up the psalm-singing policy that has controlled the Indian reservation business and tell how the Indian ring is run. No one should fail to hear this talented and peculiar woman.

Last rites: Michael C. Schaff, 17, Carson City High School student, will be held at the Latter-Day Saints Church on Silver Sage. Schaff died Sept. 7 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Open winter predicted: The Digger Indians near Nevada City predict an open winter, the sign of it being the failure of the acorn crop. They say the Great Spirit never neglects to provide plenty of food when the season is to be a severe one. The braves and squaws are putting in their time now panning out a little gold to buy enough food, whisky and tobacco to last them till the robins come again.

Superstitious subscriber: This subscriber found a spider in his paper and wants to know if it is to be considered a bad omen. Nothing of the kind. The spider was merely looking over the columns of the paper to see what merchant was advertising so that it could spin its web across the store door and be free from disturbance. (Greenville Banner)
