Carl’s Jr., in downtown Carson City could open by the end of the year or early next year, according to the construction company working on a remodel of the 1250 S. Carson St., building.

“This project is a full interior including exterior tenant improvement,” Mike Fogal, managing partner of Apex Construction, said by email. “Carl’s Jr. is hopeful to open by the end of the year or shortly after in early 2025.”

It was December 2023 when a banner announcing the arrival of the chain restaurant went up on the former Arnulfo’s Mexican Food. The building has been empty since Arnulfo’s closed last November.

The new Carl’s Jr. location would return the brand to the capital city after roughly a decade. In 2014, the Carl’s Jr. by the Carson Mall was demolished to make room for more parking.

“With both a U.S. and international footprint, Carl's Jr. Restaurants LLC and Hardee's Restaurants LLC have over 3,800 franchised or company-operated restaurants in 44 states and 43 foreign countries and U.S. territories,” according to the Carl’s Jr. parent company, CKE Restaurants Holdings Inc.

Breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, chicken sandwiches and burgers make up much of the current menu, along with dessert items like ice cream shakes.
