Silver State Storytellers has announced the 2024 Carson Creepy Short Horror Film Competition, inviting filmmakers from across Northern Nevada and beyond to showcase their talent in crafting “bone-chilling horror shorts,” according to a news release.

“This unique film competition kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at noon and challenges participants to create a 5-9-minute horror film within a two-week timeframe,” according to organizers.

Participants will receive three prompts — a line of dialogue, a prop and a sound effect — at the start of the competition, which they must creatively incorporate into their films.

“The race against the clock will end on Wednesday, Oct. 9, when all films are due,” organizers said. “The culmination of this eerie endeavor will be celebrated at Brewery Arts Center in Carson City with two screening sessions on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The evening will not only spotlight the terrifying talents of our filmmakers, but also feature a costume contest and a raffle with fabulous prizes, adding to the festive, spooky spirit of the event.”

“Each year, the creativity and ingenuity of our filmmakers surpass expectations,” said Lyric Burt, founder of Silver State Storytellers. “We can't wait to see how they rise to this year's creepy challenge and share their spine-tingling stories with us.”

The Carson Creepy Short Horror Film Competition is “an opportunity to engage with the community, hone filmmaking skills and participate in a celebration of the horror genre,” according to organizers.

Registration is open, and potential participants are encouraged to secure their spots as space is limited. Teams interested in registering can do so by visiting www.nvstorytellers.org.

Silver State Storytellers offers competitions, workshops and screenings “to nurture the local arts scene and provide a platform for creative expression,” according to the release.
