LVN claims 12 awards at Nevada Press Association event

Highlighted by Editor Emeritus Steve Ranson’s induction into the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame, the staff of the Lahontan Valley News also celebrated by taking home 12 awards on Saturday.

• Thomas Ranson took home three first-place awards during Saturday’s Nevada Press Association awards banquet at the Depot in Reno.

Thomas Ranson was first in sports feature writing for his story about the McCormick brothers.

He also was given the top honor in the sports spot news category for his story about the 2023 Greenwave Hall of Fame class. His sports photo of the state swimming meet was given the top honor in the sports photo category.

Thomas Ranson also took home second place in the sports spot news category when coach Brooke Hill left the Wave football program,

• Steve Ranson placed first in the entertainment spot news category for his story about missing artwork. He placed second in the local column category for his collection of writings. He also placed third in the feature photo category.

• Jeanette Strong’s opinion column was awarded first place in the column category.

The staff took home first place in the advertising general excellence category, the highest advertising honor given.

• The staff, led by Kyler Klix and Lauren Solinger, took home second place in the overall design category. And lastly, the staff was awarded third place in the overall general excellence category.
