A bear that found injured in the aftermath of the Davis Fire in Washoe Valley has been euthanized, according to a Tuesday news release from the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

“Since Friday, the Davis Bear’s burns had taken a turn for the worse,” Animal Ark veterinarian Dr. Lesli Spears said in the release. “Unfortunately, the necessary amputations would be so extensive that his general mobility would be impacted from foraging for food or climbing trees. He is a wild animal, and this decision was made in his best interest to say goodbye.”

The bear was transported to Animal Ark north of Reno after being found last week.

The Davis Fire started at Davis Creek Regional Park in Washoe Valley on Sept. 7 and has burned nearly 6,000 acres.
