The Greenwave boys golf team, which finished second in last year’s state tournament, is off to a strong start this spring.
Fallon finished three strokes behind Elko for the lead in the opening tournament in Dayton last Monday before winning the following day in Fernley.
Elko won the Dayton tournament with a score of 312 strokes followed by Fallon at 315 and Truckee at 339.
Only the top five individual scores are counted in the team score.
Pakela Malama-Gomes led Fallon with a 70, which was the lowest score in the tournament, followed by Colin Shishido with an 81, and Dierks Hammon and Drake Reid, who both carded an 82. Matthias Loop rounded out the scoring with an 88 while Wyatt Sorensen finished with a score of 98.
On the next day, Fallon was one stroke from scoring in the 200s as a team.
The Greenwave won the tournament with a score of 300 after three golfers scored in the low 70s. Second place went to Elko, which finished with 315, followed by South Tahoe, 318, and Truckee, 323.
Malama-Gomes led the team with a 72, which was second in the tournament, and Hammon and Shishido each finished with a 74. Reid carded an 80 followed by Loop at 96 and Sorensen at 97.
Fallon is off until April 21 when it travels to Lowry before hosting its tournament the following day.
