Former Carson deputy public defender faces lewdness charge

A former Carson City deputy public defender is facing a felony charge of lewdness with a child under the age of 16.

Adam Lawson Woodrum, 46, is accused of fondling a child, according to a complaint filed in Carson City Justice Court.

He was booked on Jan. 22 in Carson City, Sheriff Ken Furlong said on Friday.

Douglas County Chief Criminal Deputy District Attorney Chelsea Mazza is serving as special prosecutor on the case.

According to the complaint, the incident is alleged to have occurred over the course of a year ending in summer 2024.

Filed on Jan. 21, the charge is a B felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Woodrum graduated from the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV in 2006.

Mazza said that the case is being pursued through Carson City courts.

Woodrum is represented by Reno attorney Orrin Johnson. He is scheduled to appear in Carson City Justice court on March 7.
