Bellalina is a lovely 4-year-old Terrier/Pit Bull/Boxer mix with a sweet face and tender heart. She is a bit shy until comfortable but enjoys people, giving hugs, and playing with toys.

Dear reader, it came to my attention that there are several flying organizations that operate to rescue animals; Pilots To The Rescue, Flying Fur Animal Rescue, and Wings of Rescue are just three of the many nonprofit groups that rescue and fly animals.
Founded in 2015 The Flying Fur Animal Rescue specializes in moving animals scheduled for euthanasian at kill shelters to areas where they can find homes. This service helps desperate animals in need in a unique fashion. They arrange to pick up the animal and fly them to the new destination free of charge.
The pilots for the rescue organizations are volunteers who use their own planes. Many are so dedicated that they finance the service, paying up to $10,000 each year to keep their service available. The groups are nonprofits and rely on donations to continue their work.
It has been a few weeks since the terrible fires in California and I wondered about all the displaced pets who were separated from their people. The animal shelters were terribly overcrowded and finding owners was almost impossible. Several groups worked endlessly to shelter the animals.
Amazingly, the Best Friends Animal Society collaborated with Wings of Rescue to move dogs and cats to a no-kill sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. Wings of Rescue provides year round air transportation for at-risk pets at overcrowded shelters and disaster areas to safe facilities.
On Saturday, Jan. 11, one flight left Burbank Airport with 58 felines and 26 dogs securely housed in crates. Heading for the sanctuary in Kanab, the animals’ trip concluded with care, comfort, and love. There is also a chance for a new beginning and a new forever home.
Wings of Rescue advocates for responsible pet care by making sure your BFF has visited the veterinarian and is spayed/neutered. Their motto is “Let the Fur Fly.”
