AAUW fundraiser March 15

AAUW American Association of University Women presents Brooklyn on Saturday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. Fallon Theater.

Special guest Sean Cummings the “Tahoe Bagpiper” will entertain with Bagpipe music and the story of the Scottish Highland Bagpipe.

Hors d’oeuvres at noon with the movie at 1:30 p.m. Tickets available at Jeff's and AAUW members, and at the door. $20 donation includes movie, Hors d’oeuvres, Irish coffee and sweets. All proceeds go to local scholarships.


Heritage of the West

We are seeking participants for our Heritage of the West event April 5, which will showcase oral histories, storytelling, cowboy poetry, dance and music.

PACC spring musical

Tickets for the Performing Arts of Churchill County original children’s musical, “Land of Make Believe,” are available at paccnv.org.

Tickets will also be available at the door for $10 as seating allows. Performances will be at the Churchill County High School Theatre on April 3-5 at 7 p.m. with an additional 1 p.m. matinee April 5.

Written by PACC Director Tim Wuth, the musical story follows siblings Bruce and Robin on a fun-filled journey through the Land of Make Believe as they meet classic characters including Little Red Riding Hood, the Fairy Godmother, the Evil Stepmother and more.

Fallon Elks Club

• Breakfast March 2 from 8-10 a.m. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, Belgian waffles, homemade grits.

Cost is $12, and $6 for ages 5-1. Free for under 5.

• St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage is March 23 beginning at 5 p.m.

Cost is $15 and $7 for 12 and under.

Learn to quilt

Beginning March 19, the ‘My Kinda Town’ Block-of-the-Month class will be held every third Wednesday each month. By the end of nine months, you’ll have a 42″x54″ paper-pieced quilt top.

Taught by Workman’s Quilting Instructor Joey Brown, these classes are open to all experience levels: learn, review, and perfect your quilting skills. All quality fabric will be provided by Workman Farms. Only $25 per month for CCMA members/$30 for non-members – pay in full and the pattern is free: a $25.00 savings.

Seating is limited; reserve your spot by registering at the museum front desk.


Cantaloupe Festival design contest

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival & Country Fair and we have a contest for you.

We are looking for two T-shirt designs to commemorate this year's 40th anniversary: an exclusive volunteer shirt and an event shirt. Submissions may be digital, drawn or painted, but must include the following somewhere in the design: Fallon Cantaloupe Festival, 2025, 40th anniversary or 40th year or 40 years and Est. 1985.

Entries must be received by May 16. Include your name, a parent name (if underage), and a contact number on the back of the submission or on a sticky note attached. The winners will receive a family four-pack of passes and four shirts.

Entries may be dropped off at the following locations: Fallon Chamber (290 W. Williams Ave.); or Financial Horizons Credit Union (2711 Reno Highway).


Young Chautauqua Program

The Churchill County Museum’s Young Chautauqua Program for youth ages 12-18 continues every Thursday through April 10. The free classes will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. at 1050 S. Maine St.

Instructor Glen Perazzo and the museum staff will guide performers through the process of researching a chosen historical figure to create and perform an entertaining monologue. This year’s theme is “Jaunts and Journeys.”

Fallon Rotary Club is looking for volunteers for some upcoming events, namely the golf tournament, bingo, and the centennial party.

Greenwave QB Club

The Greenwave Quarterback Club is seeking volunteers. Five members will be stepping down next season.

The Greenwave Quarterback Club helps the Churchill County High School football team by overseeing multiple fundraising events including a golf tournament and catering. The funds raised help support the football program, varsity dinners and the snack bar and also provide meals for double days.

Pennington Life Center

Stop by the Pennington Life Center in February for the many activities planned.

Plenty of good eats at the center: All are welcome to partake. Lunch served 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. Cost is $6 for those under age 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and older.


Churchill County Library

Help us welcome spring in March at the Churchill County Library and enjoy programming, books, online resources and more.

A reminder that all library programming is free and open to the public.

For children:

• “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” encourages youngsters to read books before entering school. Recognition given for every 100 books read on the way to 1,000! Sign-ups accepted at any time at: bit.ly/CCL1000BBK.

• Reading with Rover takes place on March 13 at 3:30 p.m. Come practice your reading skills on the best listeners and keep the book you choose to read! Geared to ages 6-11, but all are welcome.

• STEAM sessions every Friday at 1:30 p.m. Choose from science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities that vary from week to week. Geared to kids ages six through 11, but all are welcome.

• Come out for children’s story time on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and again on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Each week’s story time will feature the same children’s content with picture books and a craft to accompany most stories. Geared to children ages 3-5, but all kids are welcome to participate.
