Dementia Friendly Carson City seeks community input

Dementia Friendly Carson City is seeking community input through an assessment used to measure attitudes and awareness about dementia and dementia services.

Memory care support group

Join Sierra Basin Memory Care for its memory care support group from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the first Thursday of each month. 

The group provides a safe space for caregivers and families to share experiences, gain insights, and receive emotional support.

Join the Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program for conversations with caregivers from 1-2:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 6 in Carson City. 


CompassionCare Hospice seeks volunteers

CompassionCare Hospice is seeking volunteers to offer companionship, respite care and engage patients in meaningful activities such as life review projects, arts and crafts, and music, bringing comfort and joy to their lives.

All Veteran Honor Guard seeks members

The Northern Nevada All Veteran Honor Guard is seeking members to help meet the need for honor services. 

The guard consists of a commander, chaplain, fire commander, riflemen, flag folders, a bugler and a boson piping. Riflemen often fill in for one of the other positions when required. 

Qualifications include having served in the military and availability on weekdays.

National Guard retirees meet monthly

Nevada National Guard retirees meet for breakfast on second Mondays at 8 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 515 Nevada St., in Carson City. The meeting features a speaker. For reservations, email csmjvh@hotmail.com.


Dance, rumba lessons at senior center

Join the Carson City Senior Center for beginner square dance and rumba lessons Mondays. 

Square dance lessons will be held from 1-3 p.m. and rumba lessons from 3-4 p.m. in the Nevada Room, 911 Beverly Drive. Guests are encouraged to wear casual attire. Singles and couples are welcome. Cost is $8.

Paper crafting lessons at senior center

The Carson City Senior Center hosts paper crafting lessons on the first and third Tuesdays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the Job’s Peak Room, 911 Beverly Drive. 

Sandi Scheer teaches how to make one-of-a-kind creations such as cards, small journals, lined paper notebooks and gift ornaments. 

All levels of expertise are welcome. Cost is $5.

Senior center hosts yoga Tuesdays

The Carson City Senior Center hosts a yoga class Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

Ruth Chan teaches Ashtanga style with modifications to fit different physical levels. 

Cost is $5 per class or $40 for 10 classes. Class is held in the Nevada Room at the senior center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Tai Chi classes at senior center

Join certified Tai Chi instructor, Laura Jones, for Tai Chi classes on the first Thursday of each month at the Carson City Senior Center. 

Attendees must attend the first class to start the course and are encouraged to wear loose-fitting clothing and athletic shoes. Each series repeats at the beginning of each month. 

Cost is $5. Classes will be held in the Nevada Room, 911 Beverly Drive.

Scrapbook class at senior center

Learn how to organize and preserve photos into safe archival albums during a scrapbook class at the Carson City Senior Center.

Senior center hosts chair yoga Thursdays

The Carson City Senior Center hosts chair yoga sessions at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays. 

Guests can learn to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and reduce stress.

Bingo fundraiser for Meals on Wheels

The Carson City Senior Center hosts bingo on the second and fourth Sundays of each month in the Sagebrush Dining Room, 911 Beverly Drive. 

Doors open at 11 a.m. and games start at 1 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring cash to play. Must be 21. Proceeds support Meals on Wheels.

The Carson City Senior Center offers one-on-one tech instruction sessions for seniors with help in emailing, smartphone use, MS Office and more. Repair service is not available. No appointment is necessary. The senior center is located at 911 Beverly Drive.

Carson Tahoe Transitional Rehabilitation Center offers outpatient therapy to manage pain and chronic conditions or restore mobility, strength and cognitive health.
