Tigers face a full slate this week

The Orange and Black athletic programs have plenty of contests on the docket this week after the winter holiday break.

In boys hoops, the Tigers (5-7, 2-2 in 4A North league play) are slated for three league contests, which started Monday night against Galena (6-6, 2-2).

Today, the Tigers will head north to take on Spanish Springs (8-4, 4-0) before concluding the week Friday at home against Damonte Ranch (6-6, 3-1).


GIRLS BASKETBALL BACK IN ACTION

After a little more than a week without a game, the Douglas High girls basketball team will have three league matches this week.

Douglas (5-7, 1-3 in Class 4A North) hosted Galena (7-7, 1-3) Monday before traveling to Spanish Springs (8-4, 4-0) today.

Friday night, the Tigers will be back in Minden against Damonte Ranch (1-11, 1-3).


WRESTLING COMPETES IN IDAHO, HOME TOURNEY SATURDAY

The Douglas High wrestling team bused to Nampa, Idaho last weekend to compete in the Rollie Lane Invitational.

The Tigers finished 67th of 93 teams.

Cody Highfill and Kolton Zinn secured the most team points for Douglas with 8.5 and 8, respectively.

At 120 pounds, Highfill went 4-2 with two wins by decision, one by fall and one by technical fall.

Meanwhile at 150 pounds, Zinn won his first two matches by pin in 3:28 and 2:47 before dropping his next two by technical fall and decision.

Izaak Conkle beat the first period buzzer in his two wins, grabbing falls in 1:58 and 1:59.

Gunnar Bleeker won a match by pin in the consolations of his 132-pound bracket.

Luiz Vega secured a win by fall in 2:04 at 285 pounds and Hunter Smokey grabbed a 14-7 decision win in the consolation at 144 pounds.

UP NEXT: Douglas took part in a pair of league duals Tuesday at Reno High against the Huskies and Damonte Ranch.

Saturday, the Tigers will host the second annual Steve Deaton Memorial Tournament.
