Registration for the Love Notes Short Romance Film Competition is open, according to a news release from Silver State Storytellers.

Filmmakers across Nevada are invited to submit 5-to-9-minute romance films that can be heartwarming, quirky or even “thrillingly spooky,” according to the nonprofit.

The competition begins Jan. 15. Filmmakers will have two weeks to create love stories incorporating three prompts: a prop, a line of dialogue, and a sound effect.

“These prompts are the key to unlocking your creativity, and all entries must be submitted by Jan. 29,” the release said.

The competition culminates in a screening at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson on Saturday, Feb. 8, where all the films will be showcased. Winners will be recognized in categories like best film, best director and best ensemble – with the top prize going to the Judge’s Choice Best Film.

“Whether you’re telling a heartfelt romcom or serving up some bad romance, we’re excited to see what Nevada’s filmmakers will create,” said Lyric Burt, president and co-founder of Silver State Storytellers.

This event is part of the Carson City Shorts Program, which also includes Moon Rocks (sci-

fi) and Carson Creepy (horror) and “continues to offer a platform for storytellers in Northern

Nevada.”
