Churchill County commissioners, including newly-elected Commissioners Matt Hyde and Eric Blakey, held their first regular meeting of the year Jan. 6.

Prior to the meeting the county held a swearing-in ceremony and administration of oath for the commissioners, school board trustees, Justice of the Peace and the Mosquito, Vector, and Noxious Weed Abatement District Board members.

Commissioners discussed and/or took action on the following agenda items:

• Approved the assignments of Commissioner Myles Getto as the Commissioner Board chair and Blakey as the Commissioner Board vice chair, Hyde as Chair and Blakey as vice chair to the CC Communications Management Board, Blakey as chair and Hyde as vice chair to the Highway Commission Board and various committee assignments.

• Heard the annual report from Public Administrator Bob Getto, who said the department handled 102 cases in 2024 with 38 of those requiring full-service hours. He also clarified the public administrator’s duties as being someone who steps in to take care of the various necessary tasks when a person dies in Churchill County without a will or family member to settle the estate. The duties can include closing financial accounts, selling vehicles and property and safely taking responsibility for firearms, he said.

• Approved a conservation easement filed by Trevor deBraga for 11356 Stillwater Road, 1225 Swope Lane and 11050 Fitz Lane, consisting of approximately 212.48 acres with approximately 170.38 acres of irrigated water-righted property.

• Heard the first reading of Bill 2024-E, an ordinance amending Titles 13 and 16 of the Churchill County Code to consolidate water dedication requirements within Title 13 of the Churchill County Code. The intentions of the bill are to clarify water dedication requirements for all land development, set payment-in-lieu of dedication requirements for all land development and to designate the purposes for payments-in-lieu of dedication.

• Approved to ratify $23,254.96 in an Emergency Solutions Grant Funding agreement between the Nevada Department of Business and Industry Housing Division and Churchill County Social Services for homeless assistance, homeless prevention and other eligible activities.

Approved County Comptroller Sherry Wideman’s recommended changes to the county’s travel expenses and subsistence allowance policy upon its annual review, including a per diem increase to $68 per day from $59 and a increase in the mileage rate of 70 cents per mile from 67 cents.

Following the meeting the commissioners were scheduled to spend the rest of the day conducting departmental tours of the County library, museum, Public Works, Planning and Zoning Department, Social Services Department and Fallon Golf Course with lunch at the William N. Pennington Life Center.
