Burns Night rapidly approaching
The Rotary Club of Fallon usually meets for lunch the first four Tuesdays of each month at noon at the 3 Sisters Steak Room located inside the Stockman’s Casino.
Our guest speaker for Jan. 21 is Zip Upham, who will discuss the Robert Burns Night dinner on Jan. 24, which will also be held at the 3 Sisters Steak Room. Burns Night is a time to enjoy Scottish traditions and celebrate the renowned poet Robert Burns with a classic combination of haggis, neeps, tatties, some reciting of poetry and maybe even a warming dram. It's also an opportunity to celebrate Scotland's enduring legacy of creativity.
Join Fallon Rotary as we raise a toast to the immortal words of Burns. Immerse yourself in a tradition that transcends time and discover the extraordinary talent that defines Scotland. It’s a place where the past and the present come together and create a celebration that resonates with the spirit of Scotland.
For tickets, call Upham at 775-427-1477. Whiskey tasting is at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $70.
Rotary is an international community service organization with more than 1.4 million members that works to improve Fallon and communities all over the world. Safety on two-lane highways
The Nevada Department of Transportation wants motorists to be safe on Nevada’s two-lane highways, especially those leading out of Fallon.
• Drive attentively at all times, including on two-lane rural roads. Even on rural roads, there are still other drivers on the road.
• Speed continues to be a primary factor in fatal traffic crashes, and the best way a driver can reduce their risk of crash is to reduce their speed. Follow posted speed limits, and be ready to slow below speed limit for adverse conditions such as weather. The faster you go, the less time you will have to react if anything happens.
• Pass only when safe to do so, and only in designated passing areas.
• Do not tailgate.
• Maintain your lane control. Stay to the right enough so that passing vehicles in the opposite lane can clear you. Watch for vehicles entering or passing on the roadway ahead of you.
• Continually scan the roadway in front of you. Be aware at all times of the road ahead, including the potential of wildlife, access roads and more.
