Oasis Academy senior Fenn Mackedon became the school’s first basketball player to eclipse 1,000 points over the weekend.
Mackedon, a four-year starter, hit the milestone in Saturday’s 69-37 loss to West Wendover in Fallon. Mackedon is averaging 18 points and seven rebounds per game.
Needing 50 points to reach the milestone, Mackedon scored 23 points to lead Oasis Academy to a 45-36 win over Coral Academy on Tuesday in Reno. Junior Trevor Barrenchea and sophomore Eli Jones each scored six points, and freshman Jackson Snow had five. Barrenchea led the team in rebounding, with nine boards, and blocks, with three, and Mackedon had eight rebounds to go with a team-high six steals and three assists.
Oasis Academy lost to Battle Mountain, 76-56, on Friday before dropping Saturday’s contest to West Wendover.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Bighorns girls team defeated Coral Academy in overtime on Tuesday before falling to Battle Mountain, 33-21, on Friday and West Wendover, 35-23, on Saturday.
Oasis Academy travels to the lake this week to face North Tahoe on Tuesday and Incline on Friday. The Bighorns return home Saturday to face Coral Academy for the Battle of the Ore Cart.
Oasis Academy ends the season next week at Pershing County and Sierra Lutheran with the final home game Feb. 5 against Incline.
