The Fallon City Council held a double public hearing Jan. 21 to discuss a zoning change request and a possible Community Development Block Grant project application and also approved a mobile food vendor license.
The council held the first public hearing to consider a zoning change for 210, 220, 230, 250-252, 270 and 298 S. Taylor St. These properties all have frontage on the street, which is also designated as U.S. Highway 95. The neighborhood block is currently a R-2 Limited Multiple Residence District and would become a C-1 Limited Commercial District.
City Engineer Derek Zimney said letters were sent to 58 property owners whose property is located within 300 feet of the proposed change. The intent of the rezoning is to represent the characteristics of the area better and their current and future uses.
Zimney also presented the third and final public hearing of a fiscal year 2025-2026 CDBG grant application to replace the degraded asphalt in the circular walking path at Laura Mills Park with new asphalt or cement. He said the $630,700 request will allow for adjustments to reflect the current market prices once construction begins.
The council approved a mobile food vendor license for Retro Brew Coffee Co. The beverage service’s coffee, tea and Italian sodas can often be found alongside events such as the opening day of Fallon On Ice or at the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival.
