Douglas High School softball opened Class 5A league play with two wins Saturday at home against Bishop Manogue, 5-2 and 14-4 (in six innings).

It extends the Tigers’ streak to 37 consecutive league wins, dating to May 2022.

Douglas was tied with the Miners 2-2 through four innings of game one, but put together a three-run fifth to grab the lead.

Maddie Lister and Marissa McLelland led off the inning with a single and double, respectively.

That set the table for an Annie Hill sacrifice fly to give Douglas a 3-2 lead. The Tigers plated their fourth run on an error before Haylie Pledger drove in the fifth run on a single.

Cam McLelland was dominant in the circle for the Tigers, going all seven innings with eight strikeouts and one earned run allowed alongside one walk.

In game two, the bats broke out as Marissa McLelland, Pledger and Hill had three-hit performances.

The Tigers trailed 3-0 after the top of the first, but responded with six runs in the home half.

Pledger drove in three RBIs while striking out three.

Hill drove in three RBIs, too, while Cameron Coats knocked in a pair of runs. Cam McLelland smacked a two-run homer to left field.

UP NEXT: Douglas (4-1, 2-0 in Class 5A North league play) will hit the road this weekend for a tournament in Las Vegas.

GALENA OUTSCORES DOUGLAS BASEBALL

Galena High baseball handed Douglas its second loss of the season, 9-1, on Saturday in Reno.

Jared Peters and Blaine Bilderback were the two Tigers to record a hit.

The Tiger pitching staff was charged with two earned runs due to a handful of fielding errors.

UP NEXT: Douglas (3-2, 1-1 in Class 5A North league play) will be on the road this weekend, traveling to Anaheim for a tournament.
