The Fallon City Council named Trent deBraga as the new city attorney March 20 after approving Mayor Ken Tedford’s appointment for deBraga.
Michael J. Mackedon, the previous city attorney, died Feb. 23. He was appointed in 1993.
“I’m thankful to the mayor and the city council for trusting me as the new city attorney,” deBraga said. “I look forward to doing a good job and serving the citizens well.”
Tedford officially recorded his recommendation ahead of the council vote, saying that deBraga had been a deputy city attorney for eight years.
Born and raised in Fallon, deBraga is a sixth-generation Nevadan with his family settling in Fallon in 1970. After graduation from Churchill County High School he accepted a football scholarship from Colorado Mesa University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on criminal justice and law-related courses. deBraga graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas William S. Boyd School of Law in 2016.
deBraga worked in Las Vegas for two years and then returned to Fallon where he was appointed as a deputy city attorney and married his high school sweetheart, Courtney. The couple have four children.
Tedford said deBraga is an active member of the community and serves as a wrestling coach and baseball coach and is an assistant coach for the Greenwave varsity football team. He is also on the board of Veritas Preparatory School.
Councilwoman Kelly Frost called deBraga an “excellent appointment.”
“I love to see it when young people come back to their community and contribute,” she said.
