Music by Britney Spears, Radiohead, Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse and other pop stars will fill Minden’s CVIC Hall in a concert that offers an avant-garde twist — the music will be played on classical instruments.

Officials said the fire that burned three acres at Eagle Valley Golf Course on Sunday was human caused. The fire started around 3:30 p.m. Sunday and burned parts of the course and a restroom area and concession stand, though no one was injured. Fire Chief Bob Schreihans said the fire most likely started from a cigarette or other human-made object.
The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. THURSDAY At 2:35 p.m., a 25-year-old Reno man was arrested on suspicion of DUI-drugs and possession of marijuana after deputies initiated a traffic stop near Idaho Street and Fairview Drive. Bail was set at $2,000.

Carson City FRIDAY At 12:48 p.m., Alonso Rangel, 25, of Carson City was arrested on felony trafficking schedule 1-28 or more grams, felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and destroying evidence after deputies initiated surveillance near the 400 block of Winnie Lane, as Rangel is allegedly a known drug dealer and gang member. Bail was set at $208,500.

WEDNESDAY At 11:52 a.m., Gerald Slavens, 53, of Reno, was arrested on suspicion of felony fugitive from justice after deputies responded to reports of a pan handler near Spooner Junction and S. Carson Street. No bail was set.
The Capital City Community Band is saluting the Nevada Appeal’s 150th birthday in its Old Favorites Band Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Carson Nugget Hall in the Aspen Building at Western Nevada College.
