On June 18, 2021, Jean Bolognese died after being in hospice care. She is so dearly loved and missed by her many loving family and friends.
Born on April 20, 1941 to Ruth and Andrew Gallant in Holyoke, Massachusetts as one of five children. She grew up in the East and worked in banking services. As a young girl she got a kitten. She loved her kitten and had her for the next 20 years. That began what would later be her calling. Jean married the love of her life, Jack Bolognese, on December 8th, 1984. They moved out West and eventually settled in and retired here in Carson City, Nevada.
Jean loved being outdoors and working on her lawn and garden. The entire time she lived here she had the most beautiful green grass and bountiful flowers all around. She brought such beautiful colors to our high-desert community. It was a sight to behold. Being outside so much, she got to know her neighbors well. Jean and Jack found themselves right at home here and loved their new found friends and community.
In 2011 Jean found her calling. She began her volunteer work with the SPCA. Jean loved all animals. Her backyard was famous for the magic hole that popped out dog bones every day to the neighbor’s anxiously awaiting dog. The furry animals were taken right away by her heart and love. Jean’s volunteer work earned her many wonderful friendships. She volunteered in the planning of our annual Spay-ghetti and No Balls Event for the last ten years. In the years of her volunteer work (though she would tell you it was her passion, not work). Jean fostered over 150 kittens in our community.
Jean sweetly cared for her husband Jack until his passing in 2017. A big part of Jean died then also. She struggled more after his passing. She found peace in giving more to her volunteer work and fostering kittens. She could tell you so many touching and unbelievable stories of her treasures. She gave them her heart and she helped them all get loving homes.
As all of us who love Jean will tell you, she was honest, funny, kind-hearted, and genuinely caring. Be it furry critters, or regular people, like her bountiful lawn and garden, Jean brought the splendor of love, care, and nourishment to each of our hearts. Like many of the furry critters, she made us feel welcome, safe, and loved. She is a forever friend who will be deeply missed.
Jean will be buried next to her husband Jack on Wednesday, August 4th at 11:00am at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial in Fernley.
