After 52 years as a proud nurse and nursing educator, Mickey retired as the Division Chair of Science and Allied Health at Western Nevada College in Carson City, in 2002, and was awarded Professor Emeritus Status.
Growing up in Denver, she became the 1,000th graduate of Mercy Hospital Nursing School. Then to St. Louis University and on to her Master’s at the University of Colorado. Before coming to WNC in 1990, she taught at Georgetown University in D.C, and Boise State.
She was with the State Board of Nursing in both Idaho and Nevada, and was responsible for getting the nursing programs accredited for both Northern Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene, and Western Nevada College here.
Mickey’s love, her passion, her dedication was to nursing and her students.
She was predeceased by her parents, Auther Wade and Esta Martin Wade, and her younger brother, Douglas Wade.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 22 years, G. V. “Jake” LaFleur.
