Joanne Mortimer passed away on March 25, 2021. She was born on August 10, 1940 to Norman and Dolores (Hellwinkel) Mortimer and was a 4th generation Nevadan.
Joanne attended Douglas County schools and graduated as valedictorian of her senior class in 1958. She attended UCLA her freshman year of college and then transferred to UNR. After graduating she was offered a job by sheriff George Byers as executive secretary for the sheriff’s office. She ended up staying there for 34 years and worked for 5 different sheriffs.
Joanne was a very kindhearted person and loved animals. Wild horses were her favorite. Her main hobby was riding horses with her lifelong friend, Renee Mack and became an accomplished equestrian.
She had a passion for all things Native American and enjoyed the Native Americans and their culture in the Carson Valley.
Joanne is survived by her 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
She will be missed
