With great sadness we announce the passing of Robert Eugene Bowman who died peacefully at home surrounded by family, on November 10, 2021. Bob was born on September 19, 1937, in Spirit Lake, Iowa to William and Marjorie Bowman.
A graduate of Storey County High School (Virginia City, Nevada) in 1955, he served in the United States Navy for two years. Married Karen Leigh Rhodes in March 1959. In 1989, Bob retired from the Nevada State Printing office after serving the State of Nevada for 32 years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Karen; sons Shane Bowman (Linda), Mark Bowman (Wendy); daughters, Kellie Nichols (Kelly) and Nancy Katafias (Doyle). His 7 grandchildren, who were the light of his life: Matt (Christa), Michelle (Justin), Cassie (Paul), Dylan, Nicolas (Lexie), Lena (Brian) and Maria. His 16 Great Grandchildren, who he enjoyed and loved dearly: Adalene, Jase, Elizabeth, Paisley, John, Avery, Dani, Tomasin, Laura, Bobby, Joey, Michael, Braxton, Giana, Owen and Louis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William and Dick.
While his grandkids were growing up, you could always find Grandpa on the sidelines cheering them on. They all took great pride in wearing Grandpa’s #6.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, water skiing and being outdoors. He spent 35 years driving up to Tahoe to play the California lotto, stopping to get breakfast with his bride. The family spent many summers water skiing at Lake Lahonton and in 1981 he won a water ski tournament at Walker Lake. Bob was always competitive and didn’t like to lose, a trait that was bestowed upon all his kids, grandkids, and greats.
A Celebration of Life will be held next Spring.
In lieu of flowers, please spend time with your family and give them hugs.
