Reverend Russell Howard Howen

The Reverend Russell Howard Howen, formerly of Minden, Nevada passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the age 90, in Fort Wayne, Indiana with family at his side. Born June 7, 1932 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to the late Howard George and Adela Anna (nee...Plantiko) Howen. A sister, Donna Marie (James) Dickson preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Miriam Anita Mikula on August 4, 1956 in Traverse City, Michigan. She departed this life on April 28, 1994. To that union, a daughter was born, Rebekah Sharlene. Later in life, he met Cecile Lorraine Michaud Desorcy of Huntington Beach,
California. They were united in marriage on December 29, 2001; she was called to eternal rest on November 10, 2021.
After serving as pastor at Christ Lutheran Church in Martinez, California for more than 30 years, Rev. Howen retired to South Lake Tahoe and became a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville, Nevada. He was interim pastor at Trinity Lutheran on
multiple occasions, and traveled throughout northern Nevada to act as a vacancy or substitute pastor at various Lutheran congregations.
Rev. Howen was a founding organizer and ongoing coordinator of the annual Sierra Golf Classic tournament for Sierra Lutheran High School in Carson City, Nevada. Rev. Howen is survived by his daughter, Rebekah and son-in-law Robert Kartman, his stepson George Desorcy; four grandchildren: Alexander (Allison) Kartman, Eric (Mary) Kartman, Hillary (Wyatt) Larkin, Madelyn Kartman; 2 step grand-daughters: Anna and Charlotte Desorcy, and seven great-grandchildren: Flynn, Jocelyn, Josiah, Charles, Myles, Maria, and Claire.
A memorial service to celebrate the Life of Rev. Russell Howard Howen will be held 11:00 AM PST Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church 1480 Douglas Avenue, Gardnerville, Nevada 89410
