Sally Mosher Mooney
December 12, 1938 - January 19, 2023
Sally Mosher Mooney, 84, of Carson City, Nevada, passed away on January 19th, after losing her battle with Alzheimer’s.
Sally was born on Dec. 12, 1938, to Clair Whipple and Lila Robison in Ely, Nevada. After graduating from White Pine High School in 1956, She majored in journalism at Utah State University, University of California, Santa Barbara, and University of Nevada, Reno. In 1959 she married her first husband, Lt. Stan Mosher, and they were posted at Fort Richardson
Army Base in Alaska. It was there she gave birth to her son, David. In 1963, her small family moved to Carson City, where she gave birth to a daughter, Leslie.
Life happened, and Sally and Stan divorced. At that time, Sally changed her major and became a teacher with the Carson City School District, where she taught for thirty years. Sally married Dan Mooney in 1979, and two more daughters were added to her family, Kristina and Courtney Mooney.
When Sally retired, she began writing stories about growing up on an isolated cattle ranch in eastern Nevada. She published her book of short stories, “On the Sunnyside of Life” in 2012. Sally is survived by her four children, and her grandchildren Brett, Halie, Brandon, and Sara. She is also survived by her three great grandchildren, Charlotte, Mila and Grayson, her sister Bonnie, her brother Warner, nieces Julie and Suzy, nephews Jon and Judson and her great nieces and nephews, T.J., Kale, Davis, Hannah, Rachel, Brooke, and Ellie.
Sally, who is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, will not only be missed by her large, extended family, but by all who knew and loved her.
