It is with a heavy heart that the Sargent family announces the passing of Michael J. Sargent on Friday June 23, 2023, in Carson City Nevada.
His wife Cathy, daughters Marcie and Dena, along with son in laws Jeff Thran and Mike McClung want to convey how much they loved Mike.
He was born September 20, 1943, in Altadena California to Paul R. Sargent and Katherine A. Sargent.
Mike graduated from Douglas High School in 1961 and served in Air Force and National Guard where he spent ¬¬¬time in Korea serving the nation before becoming Coordinator of Applicate Services for the State of Nevada Gaming Control Board, retiring after 29 years of service.
He married Cathy Owens on June 5, 1965, and had his daughters, Marcie Thran and Dena McClung.
Mike’s love for Carson Valley gave him great joy. Having grown up with his brothers Paul and Tom Sargent, Mike learned how to appreciate adventure, the importance of family, and a desire to build strong life-long relationships. He loved to find hidden places to put his hand-tied flies in the streams but always threw back what he caught.
His time spent at Walley’s Hot Springs Resort forging deep relationships, and the Minden Airport flying various aircraft exemplified his sense of belonging to Carson Valley. Mike clearly felt connected to this community.
Mike is proceeded in death by his brother, Lynn, his mother and father.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy, his children, Marcie Thran and husband Jeff, and Dena McClung and husband Mike, his grandchildren, Tyler and wife Sarah, Jacob and partner Christine, and Hayley, and his great-grandchildren Tara and Makenzie, his brothers, Paul Sargent and partner Rosemary Matt and Tom Sargent, and his sister, Samantha Dane, his sister-in-law, Vickie Cunningham and husband Kirk, and his nieces and nephews.
We will have a celebration of life on July 17 at 4:00 at Walley’s Hot Springs.
