Larry R. O’Shaughnessy, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2023, after a courageous 4-year battle with ALS.
He was born July 23, 1938, in Cottonwood, Idaho, the youngest of six children to William J.
and Julia D. (Reed) O’Shaughnessy. At a young age his parents divorced and after his mother’s remarriage, the family moved to Moses Lake, WA.
Larry attended school in Moses Lake and Spokane, WA. Shortly after graduation from
high school in Moses Lake he joined the Navy and had a very successful career, first as an aviation electrician and flight crew member (Vietnam Veteran) and later as an aviation maintenance officer serving as both a Chief Warrant Officer and a Limited Duty Officer before retiring after thirty years of service.
While serving in Alameda, CA, he met and married his love and best friend, Trinidad (Trin) Caudillo and together they raised three children while following him around the world at his various duty stations in the USA, Taiwan, Germany, and Spain. He first came to Fallon in 1980 on active duty as the EWR Officer and returned to Fallon after his Navy retirement in 1987 to work on the BOS contract where he worked at various management positions until his final retirement as Project Director in 2000.
Larry was a beloved husband, dad, grandfather, and great grandfather. His perpetual smile and optimistic perspective made him a joy to be around. Larry was open to adventures and travel and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Larry and Trin always made the effort to be with family and to celebrate special occasions and events, regardless of the many miles it
took to get there. In his spare time Larry could also be found fishing, camping, BBQing (burnt chicken was his favorite), swinging a golf club and enjoying family and friends. Even in the later stages of ALS his fighting spirit and love for life shone brightly. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Trin, of 65 years, his son Michael Ray O’Shaughnessy (Ava O’Shaughnessy) of Dugway Utah, two daughters Teri Ann Stephens (Don Stephens) of Lemoore, CA, and Julie O’Shaughnessy Elsbree (Randy Elsbree) of Bellingham, WA, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Cremation will be handled by The Gardens Funeral Home and a full-honor military burial
will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV on Friday, July 21st at 10 am.
A reception to celebrate Larry will be held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles at 7977 Reno Highway, Fallon, from 11:30–2:00 pm.
