On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Barbara McCarty (Grandma Barbara), a beloved Wife, Mother,
Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, & Friend departed this earthly life to enter her eternal home in heaven at the age of ninety-three.
Barbara was born February 24, 1930, in Salinas, Kansas. For many years, Barbara owned and managed restaurants and snack bars at several different golf courses working beside her husband, Golf Professional, Warren MacCarty. They ended their golf career at Glenbrook Golf Course, where Barbara was known for her Thursday night dinners, planning, and cooking over
100 dinners and for her baked pies and cookies.
She worked tirelessly while still finding time to babysit her many grandkids. Barbara was an excellent cook and loved to host big family meals. She knew everyone’s favorite dishes, always ensuring that no-one left hungry. She even knew all the family dog’s favorite cookies to make, as well as her marinara sauce and guacamole were the ultimate treat for both family and friends. In addition to her love of cooking, Barbara was an excellent seamstress and was always there to alter, mend, hem or teach the arts of sewing. She enjoyed reading and could easily sit down and read a book in a day.
Barbara was an amazing woman. When her husband, Warren, became very ill, she cared for him. When he was admitted into an assistant living facility, she began working as an aid for the facility continuing her care for him as well as other clients in the Parkinson/Alzheimer
unit. At the age of 72 and after the passing of Warren, Barbara received her Certified Nursing License. She continued working as a CNA for two more years. This was a tremendous career change from her 35+ years in the food and golf industry, but Barbara was a natural caregiver. Not only for her husband of 40 years, but all her family.
Barbara adored her family and cherished the time spent with them. She always loved a good party when all the family could be together to celebrate any occasion and she could cook till her hearts content. She loved sharing her stories, funny quotes, and laughing with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, seeing them grow into adults, sharing in their accomplishments gave her great joy and happiness.
She loved watching football, especially the San Francisco 49ers and some of her best times were getting together to watch a game.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Warren, and her son, Gene Wilson.
She is survived by her children, Susie (Jeff) Bargmann, David (Suzi) MacCarty, Bruce Wilson, and two other sons, Raymond Wilson, and Kevin Padillo, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara will be truly missed but her spirit and loving heart will live on through the memories and traditions carried on by the family for many years to come! Mom, Grandma Barbara, “We love you,” and you will always be in our hearts.
A funeral service will be held in her honor on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:30 am, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1331 McKay Drive, Carson City, Nevada, 89703, with a Celebration of Life to follow at her daughters (Susie) house
