Floyd Alvin Young

March 4, 1936 - August 1, 2024

On August 1, 2024, our sweet husband, father, Gpa, Ggpa, and friend was welcomed to Heaven to rest in the arms of Jesus. We can only imagine the celebration when he arrived and was greeted with “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.

Floyd was born in Wisconsin to Orville and Alma Young on March 4, 1936. He moved to California as a young adult, where he met and married his bride, Nita, just two weeks after her high school graduation. Floyd owned a Flying A service station prior to being drafted into the US Army. He proudly served our country in San Antonio, TX before returning to California upon honorable discharge. He lived in the Stockton, CA area until 1972 when he moved the family to Carson City, NV.

Floyd was an amazing mechanic and owned Floyd’s Franciscan Chevron in Stockton, CA and then Heller’s Engine & Transmission in Carson City, NV after working for Jack Heller for a many year. He retired for a brief time after he sold Heller’s and then ended his career working for Carson City School District Transportation for 20 years, earning many awards for his excellent performance.

Throughout his life, he mentored many young men and taught them not only how to repair vehicles, but also modeled what hard work and strong ethics would gain them in life. During his tenure owning Heller’s Engine & Transmission, he sponsored many racecars at T-Car/Silver State Speedway and always gave willingly without ever asking for anything in return. He owned multiple racecars over the years both in Stockton and in Carson City, and his love for the sport remained strong, still watching NASCAR, World of Outlaws, and any other type of racing any chance he could.

Other than his unwavering love for his wife, Nita, the greatest joy in his 88 years was his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an amazing father figure not only for his own children, but more so for his grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nita; children Sherri, Steve (Cynthia) and Kathy Jo (John); grandchildren Natalia, Logan, Jonah (Hailey) and Emily; and great grandchildren Grace Ann and Willow.

Honoring his wishes, no service will be held.
