We say goodbye to Carol Beatrice (Smith) Fitzsimmons, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She passed on November 30.
She was a caring person, and all those who knew her will miss her. She enjoyed many things, but it all came down to an enjoyment of learning and sharing that learning. She was a 4-H leader and teacher for many years in multiple subjects.
Carol was a learner of all things artistic: gardening, sewing, painting, singing, playing musical instruments, wood working, and quilting. She shared this love of learning with many people through her artistic talents. All her family has something that she made.
Carol was born April 29, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, grew up in Chatsworth, California, and raised her family in Fallon, Nevada.
Growing up, she was very involved with her community participating in scouts, marching band, and sports. She raised her children to do the same. She met her future husband, Bruce, through her brother in Chatsworth going to the local diner for dessert. They married in 1963 and moved to Fallon in 1974. They resided for the last 50 years in Fallon, where she was a long-term substitute for many years and finally an adult education teacher for her last years of teaching.
She led multiple 4-H clubs teaching all kinds of cooking. She loved traveling and went many places with Bruce, friends, family, and 4-H.
She is survived by her son, Ian Fitzsimmons; daughter, Laurel (Willie) Topken; grandchildren and adopted grandchildren, Cassie Topken, Erick (Laney) Topken, Keesha Eller, Clarissa (Katherine) Zuver, and Jake (Lea) Trueworthy; great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Britney, Jaylea,
and Jaden; and great great-granddaughter, Paislee.
She is reunited with Bruce, and they are traveling the skies and working on projects together.
We will miss her greatly. RIP Mom.
Please send donations in lieu of flowers to any educational organization or a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held December 20 at 2pm in the Fallon cemetery.
