He was born on April 24th, 1941, in Santa Rosa NM and spent part of his childhood in Bovina TX. His parents eventually moved the family to Patterson, California for a better life, “where things grow.” He grew up on a ranch until his parents decided to make the leap to Tahoe.
Mike remained in the Eldorado & Douglas County area for 70 plus years. He attended South Lake Tahoe High School and then joined the Navy by an off-hand suggestion from his friend who had enlisted.
Mike later migrated his family to Gardnerville from South Lake Tahoe in 1976 to purchase their forever home. He was invested in his community by working for Douglas County and eventually retiring from the City of South Lake Tahoe Public Works Department.
In his down time, he enjoyed golfing at Carson Valley Golf Course aka “The Rock Garden” and other courses.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife Cathy Turner and eldest daughter Shannon Turner. He is survived by his daughter Shelbi Turner and son Michael Turner as well as 7 grand and 6 great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2025, TBD. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him, and we will forever long to hear him say, “You know, I was thinking.”
