In Loving Memory of Donald Cox. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald D. Cox, a beloved father, husband, grandfather, and friend who passed away on November 15, 2024, at the age of 92.
A man of unwavering dedication, Don left this world only 3 weeks after the passing of his wife of 73 years.
Born in a rural farming town in California in 1932, Don was drafted into the Army at the age of 20. Upon his return home, he began his construction career, without formal training, relying on his determination and innate skill.
After moving to Nevada, Don entered the education field; affectionately known as “Mr. C.” to his students, he taught “Trade Technology” classes for Churchill County High School for over a decade. Over the years, his abilities and skill earned him the respect of his community while his kindness, humor, and support earned him the respect of his students.
Don was known for his tireless work ethic, deep love for his family, and an ever-present drive to turn his dreams into reality. He spent most of his career in the construction and woodworking trades. Whether he was designing and building a home from the ground up, fixing a small project around the house, or making hope chests for his granddaughters, he poured his heart into everything he did. His work not only reflected his technical abilities but
also his belief that every task, big or small, deserved his full attention and care.
But it wasn’t just his craftsmanship that defined him. Don was a dreamer and a thinker someone who always looked forward, constantly planning, imagining, and thinking of ways to improve. He was endlessly inventive, always seeking new ideas to bring to life, and he
encouraged others to do the same. His loved ones were frequently the beneficiaries of his creative spirit.
Above all, Don was a family man. His devotion to his wife, Tommy, was the foundation of their life together; he was by her side the night she passed, and he felt her presence the night he joined her in heaven.
His love for his daughters and grandchildren was boundless, and he never missed an opportunity to teach them, provide for them, and show them the power of perseverance and a dream well-pursued. The foundation he laid for his family was as strong and enduring as the
foundations upon which he made his livelihood.
Don leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and playful wit.
He is survived by his daughters Melba (Fred) Schoenfeldt of Reno, NV and Brenda (James) Gradick of Fallon, NV; his granddaughters Krissy, Julie, Becky, Jamie, and Jessica; his five great-grandchildren, and his 2 great, great-grandchildren.
May he live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his extraordinary spirit.
We love you, Daddy; give Mom a hug for us.
