A Celebration of Life will be held for Larry H. Lampkin on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the High Sierra Fellowship, located at 1250 Gilman Avenue, Gardnerville, NV 89410 at 11:30 am

Larry H. Lampkin, a beloved longtime resident of Gardnerville, NV, passed away unexpectedly at home the night of Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the age of 74.

Larry is married to Rachel Lampkin and together, they have six children (Sheila, Gus, Alicia, Andrew, Gina, and Erica) and eleven grandchildren (Pazley, Cayle, Hannah Kaisey, Isabella, Charlotte, Stella, Lucy, Dean, Angel and Miguel). Larry is also survived by his mother, Roberta J Lampkin of Washington, IA, brother Rick and his wife Jane of Fort Myers, FL, brother Jeff and his wife Renae of Pleasant Hill, IA, and his sister Ann and her husband Jim of Washington, IA. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of which will miss him tremendously.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Neal R Lampkin and an infant daughter, Lindsay. He was also preceded by his paternal grandparents John and Ola Lampkin, his maternal grandparents Kenneth and Bessie Henke, Sr. Born May 18, 1950, in Fort Madison, IA, Larry was the eldest of four children to Neal R. and Roberta J. (Henke) Lampkin. He grew up in Burlington, IA and later Washington, IA, where he graduated with the Washington High School, Class of 1968.

In high school, Larry was an active athlete for the Washington Demons Football Team and the Demon Track Team. He was also part of the Washington YMCA High School Division Swim Team that dominated Iowa as State Champions three consecutive years in ’66 - ‘67’ and ’68. After graduation, Larry attended Centerville Community College and later, he attended the University of Northern Iowa on a swimming scholarship. He was invited to and participated in the U.S Olympic Team tryouts in 1972 at Springfield, MA, and he held the backstroke record at UNI for 20 years after he graduated in 1973. Larry relished in his accomplishments of these years and went on to share his skills with his children and grandchildren.

Professionally, Larry built a successful career in retail management, holding leadership positions with Hy-Vee, Fleming Foods, Fedco, and Walmart, ultimately retiring as Store Manager of the Carson City, NV Walmart. After his retirement, Larry decided to accept a position with the Douglas County School District as a bus driver; being of service to children and their parents were one of his greatest joys in life. Larry had many accomplishments over the years, all of which included many relationships and friendships with the people he worked with and cared for. He was always a people person and those who knew him, loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Larry Lampkin to the Carson Valley Swim Center. Your contributions will honor his memory by supporting adaptive swim programs for children, as well as swim lessons for families struggling to find the means to pay for the lessons.
