Vicki Jean Pearson, passed away on October 20, 2024, after a valiant battle with dementia.
Vicki was born on August 15, 1947, to Eleanor Jean Harris and Charles Elwood Harris in Crescent City, CA. At the age of two she moved with her family to Reno, Nevada, where they lived until the summer of 1953. The family then moved to McGill and then Ely, Nevada where her father was Public Relations Director for Kennecott Copper. Vicki attended grade school in McGill and Ely and then moved to Carson City in September 1959. Vicki graduated from Carson City High School in 1965. She received a scholarship to Cottey College, a private women’s college in Nevada, Missouri which is owned and supported by the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic women’s educational organization.
After a year at Cottey College Vicki decided to return to Carson and work for the State of Nevada. After that she moved to Las Vegas where she was an executive secretary with the Sands Corporation. In 1969 she and her first husband moved to Lake Tahoe where she raised two sons, Eric and Dirk Folstad. In Tahoe, Vicki was the Executive Secretary at Whittell High School where she was known for always having a bowl of lemon drops on her desk to soothe
the nerves of students called into the principal’s office.
She married Kenneth Pearson in 1998 after moving back to Carson City which she considered her hometown and helped raise two stepsons all the while working for the State of Nevada and eventually retiring from the Supreme Court as Justice Nancy Saitta’s Chambers Administrator.
Following in her grandmother’s footsteps, she was active in P.E.O. serving in various leadership positions. She was also active in the First Presbyterian Church of Carson City serving as Deacon Moderator for several years and she enjoyed playing in the church bell choir. Vicki enjoyed quilting and loved being a member of the Therapy Dogs organization taking her dog Cassie to various places in Carson and the Reno Airport.
Vicki is survived by her husband of 26 years, Kenneth Pearson, sons Eric (Aimee) and Dirk (Jaime) Folstad, granddaughter Jillian Folstad, an older brother Brian Harris and stepsons Evan (Briana) and Axel (Emily) Pearson.
Vicki was predeceased by two younger brothers, Jon and Randy.
A memorial service is scheduled for January 4, 2025, at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church in Carson City.
