Carolyn Anthrop

July 23, 1940 - October 10, 2024

Carolyn Anthrop, aged 84, of Gardnerville, NV, passed away on October 10 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was first diagnosed with the disease in 2003.

Carolyn was born in Houston, Texas on July 23, 1940, to Rudy and Frances Schreider. She graduated from Reagan High School and Sam Houston State University. Following her graduation from college, she embarked upon what would become a 41-year career as a flight attendant for United Air Lines After the merger between United and Pan American air Lines. She flew primarily to Asia—Hong Kong, Shangia, Seol, and Sydney. In 1964, on a flight from Salt Lake to Denver, she met the love of her life, Donald Anthrop. They were married the following year.

After her retirement, Carolyn was active in Clipped Wings, an organization of retired Flight attendants, serving as president of the Oakland, California chapter in 2007 and 2008.

Don had gone to graduate school at UC Berkeley, and while there he enjoyed mountain climbing in the eastern Sierra Nevada. After retiring, Don and Carolyn moved to Gardnerville, NV in 2019 where each morning they awoke to spectacular views of the mountains, and Carolyn, despite the crippling effects of Parkinson’s Disease, was able to take short walks. Carolyn loved being outdoors. Before she was severely disabled by Parkinson’s Disease, she enjoyed hiking among the magnificent old-growth redwoods in Redwood National Park on California’s north Coast.

Carolyn was a loving and wonderful wife to her husband, Don, and a devoted mother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She never stopped being positive, never stopped being sparkly and colorful. She never quit. She was vibrant.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Frances Anthrop, her son, Donald Charles Anthrop, who, following in his mother’s footsteps, is a captain for Southwest Airlines, and a grandson Jack Anthrop.

Carolyn is preceded in death by a son, Douglas Albert.
