Norris George Schultz, 70, left this earth Friday, October 18, 2024, at home surrounded by his family and dogs, after a valiant nine-year battle with cancer. Norris was born on April 3, 1954, to Elvera and Donald Schultz in Englewood, California. Norris lived his life in Carson City, Nevada graduating from Carson High School in 1972. In 1973, he ventured to the Netherlands as an exchange student where he learned to speak Dutch, to wrap and export cheese, and to travel Europe with the many friends he made during his stay. He could speak a respectable Dutch for the remainder of his life and made contact over the years with his Dutch families. Upon his return home, Norris attended the University of Nevada, Reno followed by his career alongside his father in a respected flooring business.
Norris’s sense of humor was legendary, always ready with the perfect joke at the appropriate time – right up to the very end. He loved a good prank, often scaring his daughter April and her friends during a sleepover or teasing the rest of his family and friends. A good laugh was alway guaranteed if Norris was in your presence.
Norris retired from Carson Tahoe Hospital, where along with his sense of humor, he was renowned for his knowledge of all tools and new products used in hospital maintenance as well as his work ethic of never procrastinating, never passing the buck. He was also a true “gearhead”. Norris could always be depended upon to know everything about the car and the motorcycle he owned and could recite every specification about these and many other vehicles. He loved using his vehicles by traveling with his wife Kate and the dogs and loved a good motorcycle ride.
Norris was well known for his love of music, performing in barber shop quartets and then many years in a bluegrass band. His tenor voice could be heard as he played his upright bass for family events and performances throughout Nevada and northern California. He was also a member of the Praise Team at the First Presbyterian Church.
Norris is survived by his wife (Kathy), sister Janene Griffin (Mark), sister Donna and many nieces and nephews. His only daughter, April, preceded him in death.
A celebration of life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Saturday, November 16 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation or your favorite charity. A special thank you to Gentiva Hospice, for their assistance during Norris’s final days.
