Janice Eleanor Arthur of Gardnerville, Nevada passed away peacefully in her home on November 24, 2024. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Jan was loving towards her family and friends. She wanted only the best for each one and would
do whatever she could for anyone she cared about. Jan was born in Metcalf, Illinois on April 21, 1936, to parents Paul Edward Brown and Faye Maxine Forsythe.
Jan graduated from Carl Schurz High School in 1954. During her high school years, she dated Roger F. Arthur “Rogie” of Chicago, Illinois where he attended Lane Tech High School. Later they married on May 19, 1956. Their family was complete when daughter Dawn was born in
1960. During their lives together and along with being a wife, a partner and a mother, Jan worked as a grocery store checker, a bank teller, and an insurance clerk. She eventually took a cue from her mother and became a waitress. She loved waitressing and took immense pride
in turning a grumpy customer into a happy one with her lovely smile, robust sense of humor and excellent service.
Jan learned to fish from Rog and was a quick study with several trophies on her wall to prove her skill. In retirement, the couple fell in love with the Carson Valley and moved into their dream home in Gardnerville in 1999. From this home base, they fished, hiked and enjoyed the
mountain landscape. Sadly, Jan lost her beloved Roger in June 2012 after 56 years of marriage. This loss truly rocked her, but her faith was strong, as she trusted in the lord.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents Paul Brown and Faye Scott, her adored brother Donald Brown and her “Boyfriend” and husband Roger Arthur.
She is survived and deeply missed by her daughter Dawn Robinson (Art), her grandchildren Stephanie Fraser (Jeff), Colin Robinson, and Jacquelyn Martini and her great grandchildren Jacob Fraser and Aliyah Fraser. She also will be missed by her sister-in-heart, Linda Arthur and many friends.
Dawn and Art would like to thank all of her (and our) friends, neighbors, pastors and family who have been such a great support with prayers, guidance, flowers and food. Also, a heartfelt thank you to St. Mary’s Hospice of Northern Nevada for the love, care and kindness they showed the whole family. You are all what Jan called “Walking Angels”. We are forever grateful.
A celebration of life will be held at Carson Valley Bible Church 1701 Lucerne Street in Minden on Sunday May 18, 2025, at 2:00. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jan’s memory to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office or the Douglas County Animal Services, both at P.O. Box 218, Minden, NV, 89423
