Carson City School District’s graduation rate is back on the rebound from 2022’s 80.6% to 83.1% after a slow decrease three years past.
Preliminary results from Tuesday’s general election show the Carson City School Board will welcome Michelle Pedersen and Rebecca Roberts as incoming trustees and retain incumbent Mike Walker. Roberts, a Carson resident of 10 years who will represent District 2, ran unopposed and received 21,497 votes as of Thursday. She told the Appeal she appreciated the trust the community is placing in her to help make the best decisions for their children.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong has found the recent trend of student threats occurring in schools in local public and private schools problematic. Furlong said law enforcement takes student threats more seriously than simple outbursts. “A threat is a threat, and I cannot fathom the thought of not acting on that threat right now, ” Furlong told the Appeal Friday.
The Carson City School Board approved its generative artificial intelligence policy after a second reading during its July 23 meeting.
Enrollment in Carson City School District’s 2024 summer school program reflects the year’s ongoing struggles with chronic absenteeism.
The Carson City Schools Foundation has awarded $8,530 in mini-grants as well as grants for a department, school or grade-level projects.
