Bike Month events set for Carson City in May

Muscle Powered, Carson City's volunteer trail-building and maintenance team, will host numerous events during Bike Month (May) and is inviting the public to participate.

“Muscle Powered works to make Carson City healthier for all citizens as well as safer and more accessible for bicycling and walking through education and advocacy, the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and developing and maintaining recreational trails throughout the city,” the nonprofit said in a news release.

• May 5, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tour of Carson, a bike cruise on Carson City's paved biking byways, starting at Shoe Tree Brewing Co., 1496 Old Hot Springs Road. The ride is approximately 30 miles, 2-4 hours.

• May 15, 7 to 8 p.m.

International Ride of Silence, a silent bike ride to honor those killed in pedestrian and biking accidents, and their families, starting at McFadden Plaza, 223 W. 3rd St., escorted by volunteers from Carson City Sheriff’s Office. The ride is approximately 7 miles, about 1 hour.

• May 17, 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Bike Party & West Side Cruise, Muscle Powered's annual party, hosted by the White House, 402 E. Telegraph St., with food, music and raffle.
