Brandy Goodson will celebrate “Star Wars Day” Saturday by participating in the Special Olympics Lake Tahoe Polar Plunge. The public is invited to watch the annual fundraiser at Zephyr Point, make a pledge or join in on the plunge. “Star Wars” themed costumes are encouraged.

A lifelong Fallonite, Goodson made local and national headlines last June when she sprinted to a silver medal in the 200 meter dash at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany. She is also the Special Olympics Northern Nevada global messenger and recently joined the board of directors. Goodson said she enjoys jumping into the freezing water.

“People think I'm nuts,” Goodson said with a grin. “But you don't have to get wet. You can register as a chicken.”

Donations toward the annual fundraiser are accepted in person at Blue Sky Thrift Store, 1750 W. Williams Ave., in Fallon, or online at www.classy.org/fundraiser/5210609.

This is the first year the Northern Nevada chapter of Special Olympics will participate as its own entity since it separated from Northern California in February. All money raised stays local.
