WNC names Conchas student employee of the year

Yazmin Conchas has been named Western Nevada College’s 2024 overall student employee of the year.

In previous years, one student worker has been honored during Student Employee Appreciation Week in April. This year, however, multiple students were honored for the different skills that they bring to each department they serve.

Other honorees include:

• Guadalupe De Santiago, student employee of the year for community service, academic advising on the Fallon campus

• Erica Diaz, critical thinking, academic advising

• Jordan Zamora, diversity and inclusion, academic advising

• Hannon Callahan, leadership, continuing education

Foundation’s scholarship magazine available

Western Nevada College Foundation has released its annual We Are Western Scholarship Appreciation and Recognition magazine.

The magazine is available in the foundation office and accessible online by visiting www.wnc.edu and placing “We Are Western” in the search bar.

This year's magazine features scholarships and recipients, Willy Wildcat, the record-setting Reach for the Stars Gala, memories of one of the college's longest-serving presidents, how a mother of two was able to pursue her nursing dream and more.

Foundation extends scholarship application deadline

Current and prospective students who haven’t applied for Western Nevada College Foundation scholarships are in luck. The application deadline has been extended to June 1.

By filling out the application, students will be considered for more than 300 scholarships of $500 or more. The scholarships are for the 2024-25 school year. Fill out the form at wnc.edu/scholarships.

Eight weekend showings of ‘Cinderella’

Tickets are available to all eight performances of Western Nevada Musical Theatre Co.’s presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” starting on Friday, May 10.

Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

All seating is reserved. Ticket prices are $25 and $28 and can be purchased online at www.WNMTC.com.

Students, staff enjoy flag football games

As Western Nevada College students prepare for finals, flag football served as a diversion from studies last Thursday at John L. Harvey Field.

The First Year Experience initiative presented the game, bringing together staff and students for two games. The Turkey Bowl's popularity in November inspired the spring game, which produced plenty of action and left everyone smiling.

FYE creates a foundation for first-time college students to be successful by engaging them in programs that support academic growth, utilize campus resources, prioritize personal well-being and build meaningful relationships.

Dogs, donuts and donate life, a paw-sitive event

The University Police Department (Northern Command) and Nevada Donor Network teamed up to bring law enforcement agencies from across the state to Western.
