A 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly starting a fire and assaulting his wife.

David Ralph Beckman was arrested at 5:35 a.m. Saturday in the 1900 block of H Street on suspicion of felony first-degree arson and third-offense domestic battery.

The fire started in a bedroom in an apartment in the 2000 block of Lone Mountain Drive. Beckman's wife told investigators that he had "hit her and pushed her into the television," according to the arrest report.

Beckman's wife told investigators that she was asleep on the couch when she awoke to a fire in the bedroom, according to the arrest report.

Carson City fire investigators determined that the fire was started on a mattress in the bedroom using whiskey as an accelerant, and Beckman sustained injuries "consistent with someone who started the fire."

Beckman's bail has been set at $40,000.
